Ruthven is a handsome young English aristocrat honeymooning on the Demeter with his bride Dorabella and servant Adisa. He depends on his mysterious sponsor Balaur—who proves to be Dracula—for financial support and the voyage itself. Proud of his status, he preens before mirrors and leverages his rank to sway others amid shipboard tensions. Vain yet emotionally fragile, he swings from forced joviality to grief-stricken hysteria, rendering him easy prey for Dracula's seductive manipulations that erode his will and turn him into an unwitting pawn.
