The Abominable Snowmen Part 5

The Doctor, Jamie, and Victoria arrive at a Tibetan monastery beset by Yeti, where they uncover a sinister plot involving an ancient entity using the monks and a mysterious intelligence to conquer Earth.

The Doctor, along with his companions Jamie and Victoria, arrives at a remote Tibetan monastery, Detsen, which is under siege by fearsome Yeti. The monks, led by Abbot Songsten and his loyal follower Khrisong, are struggling to defend their sacred home from these monstrous creatures. Amidst the chaos, Professor Travers, an old acquaintance of the Doctor, reappears, haunted by a previous encounter with the Yeti and suffering from memory loss.

Victoria wanders into the inner sanctum where she encounters Padmasambhava. Padmasambhava places Victoria in a trance and uses her as a conduit to speak to the monks and cause confusion. Meanwhile, the Doctor tends to Travers. Travers recalls a pyramid shape from the monastery gates, but can't remember much else. Suddenly, the Yeti break through the monastery defenses, heightening the panic.

The Doctor investigates the Yeti's presence and discovers they are controlled by a signal emanating from within the monastery itself. Suspicion falls on Padmasambhava, a revered spiritual leader, who seems to hold the key to the unfolding mystery. Rinchen is killed by the Yeti while looking for Victoria.

As the monks prepare to abandon the monastery, Victoria falls under the influence of Padmasambhava, relaying messages that urge the monks to flee, further isolating the Doctor and his companions. The Doctor realizes that the holy man is not what he seems and goes to confront him. Jamie tries to help Victoria but nothing he does can break through to her.

In a climactic confrontation, the Doctor faces Padmasambhava in the inner sanctum, learning the truth about his connection to an ancient, formless intelligence that seeks to gain a foothold on Earth. Padmasambhava reveals that he made mental contact with this intelligence which now controls him.

The Doctor attempts to free Victoria from the intelligence's influence, while also trying to decipher the purpose behind the Yeti and their presence at the monastery. Travers begins to regain his lost memories, piecing together the events of his previous encounter with the Yeti and helping the Doctor to understand the nature of the threat. As the episode concludes, the Doctor discovers that the true control lies within Songsten, and that it's not yet too late to help the monks.

Act 1

This act establishes the immediate threat and the insidious nature of the antagonist's plan. Victoria, separated from the Doctor, unwittingly becomes a pawn in Padmasambhava's scheme. Upon entering the Inner Sanctum, she encounters Padmasambhava, who swiftly places her into a hypnotic trance. He then uses her as a conduit to project his will, manifesting real Yeti in the monastery courtyard by manipulating miniature models. This act of sorcery directly leads to a violent breach of the monastery's defenses, plunging the monks into chaos and fear. Simultaneously, the Doctor attempts to aid Professor Travers, who struggles with fragmented memories of a 'blinding white light' and a 'piercing noise,' hinting at a previous, traumatic encounter with the controlling entity. Travers's distress and vague recollections of 'evil' and a 'pyramid' foreshadow the deeper, more sinister intelligence at play. The Yeti's successful incursion results in the tragic death of Rinchen, who is crushed by a falling Buddha statue while desperately searching for Victoria, whom he mistakenly blames for the escalating horror. This incident underscores the physical danger and the psychological manipulation at work. Padmasambhava, observing the success of his plan, reveals his intention to completely empty the monastery by nightfall, preparing the mountain for the 'Intelligence.' He then resolves to address the 'problem' of the Doctor and his companions, indicating Victoria will be instrumental in driving them away. This act effectively sets the stage, demonstrating the antagonist's power and the immediate peril facing the protagonists and the monastery.

Act 2

The second act propels the narrative forward as the antagonist's plan to evacuate the monastery progresses, while the Doctor begins to actively investigate the true source of the threat. Following the Yeti attack, the monks, led by Songsten, resign themselves to a predetermined fate, believing the disaster to be unavoidable. Victoria, still under Padmasambhava's hypnotic influence, is used as a mouthpiece to deliver a chilling message to the assembled monks. Speaking with the voice of Padmasambhava, she urges them to abandon Detsen, claiming there is 'no help' against the Yeti and that the monastery must be deserted. This pronouncement effectively convinces the monks to prepare for their departure, further isolating the Doctor and his companions. Jamie, concerned for Victoria, finds her still in a deep trance, repeating warnings of 'great danger' and the need to be 'taken away.' The Doctor learns from Khrisong and Thomni that Victoria spoke with the 'Master's voice' and that Padmasambhava, whom Thomni identifies as having been at the monastery three hundred years prior, recognized the Doctor. This revelation confirms the Doctor's suspicions about Padmasambhava's true nature and his connection to the ancient intelligence. Realizing the urgency, the Doctor resolves to confront Padmasambhava directly in the Inner Sanctum. Jamie attempts to break Victoria's trance but fails, highlighting the strength of the hypnotic control. This act culminates in the Doctor taking decisive action to understand and counter the pervasive threat.

Act 3

The final act accelerates towards a critical revelation, as the Doctor and Travers work to pinpoint the ultimate source of the Yeti's control. Having successfully freed Victoria from the immediate effects of Padmasambhava's hypnosis, the Doctor prioritizes locating the control center for the Yeti. He enlists Travers's help to take additional readings on the mountainside, aiming to triangulate the transmission source. Travers, despite his initial memory loss, experiences a strong sense of déjà vu, hinting at his deeper, suppressed knowledge of the Yeti's operations. The Doctor and Travers venture onto the mountainside, observing the motionless Yeti and realizing they await instructions. Travers, demonstrating unexpected courage, insists on taking the risk to investigate further. As the Yeti unexpectedly move away, the Doctor obtains the crucial readings he needs, confirming the control emanates from within the monastery itself, a revelation that initially seems impossible given the monks' imminent departure. Back in the courtyard, the monks prepare to leave, with Songsten intending to seek a final blessing from Padmasambhava. This sets up the dramatic convergence. The Doctor and Travers return, announcing their discovery that the control is 'here, in the monastery.' As Thomni points out Songsten's presence with Padmasambhava, Travers's memories flood back. He vividly recalls 'Songsten, the Yeti, on the mountain,' and a specific 'cave,' indicating Songsten's direct involvement and the location of the true control. This climactic moment shifts the focus of the threat, revealing the true puppet master and setting the stage for the ultimate confrontation.
