Grabbed in handfuls by the Surgeon, they are shoved deep into her flooded abdomen to soak up blood and apply direct pressure. Their use is frantic, the Surgeon’s hands moving with urgency as he tries to stem the flow of blood, even as more packs are handed forward by the Scrub Nurse. Before: Sterile and ready for use, stacked and accessible on the operating table.
