Object
Gatherer Camp Noranium Pile
A ragged heap of salvaged noranium ore and scrap—granular chunks, jagged alloy plates, twisted beams, scorched wiring, oxidized flakes, and loose particulate that glitters with alien iridescence—piled against the perimeter of the Gatherer camp at night. Characters shove wiring and phasers into the mass; when energized or vaporized, the pile produces a dense, choking, acrid grey smoke that numbs senses and blots sightlines. Riker rigs and detonates it to create a tactical smoke screen, allowing Data, Geordi, and Worf to conceal the away team during the ambush and subsequent negotiation.

Purpose
Improvised tactical device: when vaporized or heated, the noranium pile produces a thick smoke screen used to conceal movement and enable a rapid extraction under hostile fire.
Significance
Functions as the decisive physical gambit that preserves the away team's safety and collapses the parley’s initial goodwill—its use pivots the encounter from open diplomacy to fraught negotiation and exposes fractures in trust and honor between the parties.
