Object
Captain Picard's Communicator
A standard Starfleet communicator badge, gold arrowhead design, issued to Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise. Initially discovered aboard a Borg cube—found pristine in a drawer beside his folded uniform and empty boots, and separately detected emitting a faint active signal that guided the away team through stasis pods. In the following year, the device resumed its routine function: coordinating torpedo tests, enabling ship-wide hails, and serving as a precise transporter lock during a desperate shuttle flight through the Mar Oscura nebula. Later, during Picard's forced residence on Kamin's world, the communicator was conspicuously absent—his hand closed on empty air when he called for the Enterprise, and his frantic search of an unfamiliar home yielded nothing. The device thus charts an arc from artifact of loss, through tool of command, to symbol of a displaced identity, ultimately representing the fragile thread between Picard and his Starfleet existence.
