Iconian Control Room Console

Central Iconian control console for the gateway launch sequence: a hulking, squat array of dark, weathered alloy inlaid with faintly luminescent glyph-rings. It features a circular countdown indicator, a tactile initiation ridge, concentric control rings, tactile glyph-pads, and a central glasslike platen that projects flickering gateway imagery. When activated, it emits a low metallic rumble and an alien mechanical vocalization intoning the countdown, such as 'kandar more, kandar sete, kandar ne'. The console violently vents scalding steam in jagged bursts, shudders nearby consoles, and can deliver jolts to those who touch it, resisting physical interaction and scrambling sensors. It ultimately requires a manual override to halt its dangerous countdown. Jean-Luc Picard physically interacts with this console during the activation and override, making it the focal physical interface for the gateway's launch sequence.

Purpose

To operate and regulate the Iconian gateway and associated launch/sequence systems—controlling power distribution, launch authorization, and the portal’s activation state.

Significance

A story-critical antagonist: the console embodies the Iconian program’s agency, physically imperils the away team, catalyzes the decision to deny the technology, and directly precipitates Picard’s sacrificial plunge through the unstable gate.
