The rock supports beneath the cistern are critical structural components that hold the tank in place. The Thuggee guards smash them with sledgehammers, causing the cistern to collapse and unleash the flood. The cracking and crumbling of the supports is audible and ominous, signaling the imminent disaster. Their destruction is the direct cause of the tidal wave, making them a key part of Mola Ram’s trap. However, Indy’s escape is not yet guaranteed—the flood chases him down the tunnels, adding urgency to the final stretch of the chase.
